Cate Blanchett injured in on-stage mishap

Proving that actors shouldn’t try to mix media, Cate Blanchett, who won legions of fans for her role as Galadriel in the 2003 movie, ‘Lord of the Rings’ has been injured on stage…by a radio.

The 40-year old actress was engrossed in a lively performance of ‘A Streetcar Named Desire,’ at The Sydney Theatre in her native Australia when she was hit by a radio that was used as a prop, “There was a minor incident on stage that unfortunately did injure Cate,” Tim McKeough, the theatre’s spokesman told the Australian press.

Early rumors had claimed that an Actor had thrown the radio at Cate with some form of evil intent, but Tim strongly denied this, “There is no point at which the radio is thrown. There was a moment when another actor lifted the prop, and Cate somehow sustained a minor blow.”

According to Us Magazine, an audience member told their local press that Cate, “had blood running down the back of her head, and down her neck.” But true to her craft Cate had tried to go on, “She acted for about another 30 seconds, then ran into what we thought was the next scene. But then the house-lights went up and everyone had to leave the theatre.”

The Melbourne-raised actress, who won an Oscar in 2005 for her role opposite Leonardo Di Caprio in Scorsese’s, ‘The Aviator’ was not seriously hurt and was not, as some reports have since claimed, transported for hospital care.

Despite the mishap, Cate’s friends in the play seem quite sure she’ll return, “Everyone’s fine.” said McKeough. “Cate was injured, she got a bump on the head, but we’re confident she’ll be back on stage by tomorrow.”
