As we reported last week, Ashlee Simpson got dropped for the CW’s reboot of Melrose Place, and the news has sent her into what looks like a career-shredding tailspin of self-serving leaks.People close to the floundering 25-year old actress now claim she is close to emotional breakdown over the eviction, as she is already concerned that her marriage might also fail.
“Ashlee didn’t see it coming and she’s crushed,” a source told the National Enquirer. “She invested her heart and soul into the job and feels like the rug was pulled from under her.”
Ashley’s redundancy – plus that of her co-star Colin Egglesfield – was announced in a brief, bloodless statement from the CW bosses on October 22. And just to rub salt in, they then ordered a whole season of the recycled show…without Ashlee there.
According to the source, Ash did not take this well; The 5′6” performer was said to be crash-dieting and swapping Red Bull and nuts for real food to get thin enough to be seen with her co-stars, “She was already struggling to hold her marriage together, dealing with motherhood and practically starving herself in order to look good,” said the insider.
And home life is no picnic either; Married in May of 2008, she and new husband, Pete Wentz are said to be having some problems; The day Ashlee was fired Pete was away at a party – she was alone in their home with just a sick baby, and days like that are souring their marriage.
“Ashlee is jealous of the groupies who throw themselves at Pete, and he’s sick of Ashlee’s obsession with her looks and her career,” the insider revealed.
